Cheb lies on the Ohře river at the western edge of Bohemia, watched over by its castle and the Black Tower. On the main square stands Špalíček, a cluster of medieval houses, and the town museum recalls the murder of Albrecht von Wallenstein. The spa towns of Františkovy Lázně and Mariánské Lázně and the Soos nature reserve are nearby.
