Hodonín sits on the Morava river at the Slovak border and is the birthplace of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, Czechoslovakia's first president, remembered in the local museum. The town belongs to Slovácko, a region of wine and folk traditions. Nearby are the Great Moravian site at Mikulčice, floodplain forests along the Morava and cycle routes through the vineyards.
