At the foot of the Ore Mountains, Chomutov has a historic centre marked by its town tower and the Gothic Church of St Catherine. Alum Lake, a popular swimming spot, and a large zoo park lie close to the centre. The mountain ridges above town are good for hiking and cycling, and for skiing in winter.
